Care Guide

Linen is one of the most durable natural fibers in the world. With the right care, your Vintagecz dress will last for years — and actually get better with every wash. Here's everything you need to know to keep your linen looking its best.

The Beautiful Thing About Linen

Unlike most fabrics that degrade over time, linen softens and improves with washing and wearing. The slight stiffness you may notice when your dress first arrives will relax after the first wash, revealing the soft, fluid drape that makes linen so special. Don't be discouraged by how it feels new — it's only getting started.

Washing

  • Machine wash: Use a gentle or delicate cycle with cold or lukewarm water (up to 30°C / 86°F). Avoid hot water, which can cause excessive shrinkage and weaken the fibers.
  • Hand wash: Submerge in cool water with a mild detergent. Gently agitate and rinse thoroughly. Do not wring or twist.
  • Detergent: Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid bleach or detergents with optical brighteners, which can damage linen fibers and affect color over time.
  • Wash separately or with similar colors for the first few washes to prevent color transfer, especially for darker shades.

Drying

  • Air dry is best. Hang your dress or lay it flat on a clean surface away from direct sunlight. Direct sun can fade colors over time.
  • Tumble dry: If needed, use a low heat setting. Remove while still slightly damp to prevent over-drying, which can make linen stiff and brittle.
  • Never wring linen — gently press out excess water and reshape while damp.

Ironing

  • Linen is best ironed while slightly damp — either after washing before fully dry, or with a steam iron.
  • Use a medium to high heat setting with steam.
  • Iron on the reverse side (inside out) to protect the outer surface and avoid shine marks.
  • Alternatively, embrace the natural, relaxed texture of linen — light wrinkles are part of the fabric's character and charm. Many of our customers prefer the lived-in look.

Storing

  • Store folded or hanging in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Avoid storing in plastic bags or airtight containers — linen is a natural fiber that needs to breathe.
  • For long-term storage, wrap in acid-free tissue paper to prevent yellowing.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in storage, as UV light can weaken fibers over time.

Stain Treatment

  • Treat stains as quickly as possible — the sooner you act, the easier removal will be.
  • Blot (don't rub) the stain with a clean cloth to absorb excess liquid.
  • Apply a small amount of mild detergent directly to the stain, work gently with your fingers, and rinse with cool water.
  • For stubborn stains, a mixture of white vinegar and water can be effective. Test on a hidden area first.
  • Avoid hot water on stains — heat can set certain stains permanently.

What to Avoid

  • Hot water (above 40°C / 104°F)
  • Bleach or harsh chemical cleaners
  • Wringing or twisting the fabric
  • Over-drying in a tumble dryer
  • Storing in airtight or plastic containers
